Summer in New York means there is more live music than ever to choose from and a ton of different locations in which you could choose to sweat yourself silly. In my opinion, the next couple of weeks holds some of the best shows this summer. One of them is even free. So, if you live in NY or nearby you should seriously consider making the journey to one or all of these shows.

The return might be a bit of an exaggeration but I took a long break from music blogging and doing GetGlucky because it just became mad tiring yo! BUT, thanks to some great new music and a couple individuals in my life I feel compelled to start posting things again. I hope those of you who used to read will read again!

It seemed like a fitting thing to have the first post be about my dear home-slice KT Tunstall who has been off the radar for a little bit. After 4 years of non-stop touring and promoting and releasing, she took a well earned break and has been in the studio for the past year recording her latest record which is due for release in the Autumn, “Tiger Suit”.

She released a teaser docu-style video for the song and the song itself is brilliant. I’ve been re-watching the video over and over. Enjoy it for yourself below.

*The Heart Is A Drum Machine - DVD Release

The Heart is a Drum Machine out on DVD as of yesterday. The film features the likes of Wayne Coyne, Jason Schwartzman, Elijah Wood, Andrew VanWyngarden of MGMT, Britt Daniel of Spoon, Juliette Lewis, John Frusciante, Maynard James Keenan, and more, all answering the question “What is Music?” It’s an insightful, entertaining film for all kinds of music lovers.

The film was directed by Christopher Pomerenke and produced by the makers of 2006’s Moog. The Flaming Lips’ Steven Drozd wrote and performed the film’s original score and covered Elton John’s “Rocket Man” with Maynard James Keenan on vocals. Check out the trailer above and the DVD out now.

A friend of mine said she was managing a new artist. The artist happens to be crazy good. Lady Lamb The Beekeeper is the kind of young that makes you feel like you better step up your game in whatever you’re doing, the kind of poetic lyricist that makes you want to pick up a thesaurus and the kind of musician that gives you that little reminder on a grey day in New York why you get so excited by music in the first place. So much raw potential here.

Having been back home for a couple weeks (and unable to get back to New York apparently, thanks British Airways) I have had a second to stop and listen to all the beautiful and amazing music coming out of the UK right now. I guess the output of music is a cyclical thing, some country is always having their good moment and then it will be another’s turn. Right now I think the UK is winning once again.

My favourite girl. It really is as simple as to say she makes me excited about music - about listening to it, about going to see it live and about the beauty of really anticipating an album again. Oh and she’s a total dream. Her debut album “Lights” is out in March and her full tour is up here:

Mumford and Sons
Another band to have been having a very good year. Marcus Mumford used to play drums in Laura Marling’s band and now heads up his very own Mumford and Sons. We’ve blogged about them a fair bit in the past but since their shiny debut is out I thought I would post one of the beautiful songs from it.

Laura Marling
Keeping in the same musical tangent, Laura Marling doesn’t need much of an introduction. With incredible depth to her songwriting and clear wisdom beyond her years, she writes some of my favourite lyrics around. Her latest is a winter ode to England when covered in snow… how appropriate.

Fanfarlo
Fantastic live band, saw them recently in New York and was blown away. A happy medium between Beirut and Arcade Fire they should satisfy the last of your British fix.

Sometimes blogging about music means you find artists or bands that you get really excited about and you keep up with them as they record and put songs up on myspace etc. but you spend a while waiting for the first single to officially drop.

I Blame Coco caught my ear a couple years back in London and I’ve been excited to hear what she finally released. Come this January she is releasing her first single “Caesar” that features the awesome Robyn. This song is totally infectious and I think 2010 is going to be a big year for Coco.

It’s been a while since a song has really caught my attention and my ears have devoted a little fanclub to it. I’m excited to say I have a current new obsession. There’s something so grand about this song but so sweet at the same time. Like if Arcade Fire hadn’t been used to soundtrack the Where The Wild things Are trailer then this would have been perfect.

Don’t be confused by the name, they’re not a metal band or all that fond of skulls as far as I can see. Hailing from London but with a blues-rock sound reminiscent of the White Stripes or the Dead Weather, this is a new record that i’ve been spinning around and around.
